Santa Monica, California, for a long working weekend, October 2006.
California. Sunshine. Beach. Sunsets. Sure sounds nice. But, it's not the beach destination that we expected. We're used to beaches that attract vacationers. Santa Monica apparently is not a vacation destination. It's more of a place to eat your bag lunch in the middle of your work day. There are no bar tenders coursing cruise ship passengers to do shooters, or large beers. There is no Margaritaville. No Carlos 'n Charlie. No dancing on tables. In fact, no vendors selling Santa Monica trinkets. Nope, not the place we'd book a vacation to. There are plenty of restaurants & stores, a very nice park along the cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean & beach. But that's about it for Santa Monica.
However - we did get to go to the Warner Bros Studio. I expected boredom, but am happy to say that is was very interesting and enjoyable. We actually sat in on the real set of Friends (see the pictures below). We also saw the set for 2 & a half Men - didn't get to watch a live show, but ware able to go into the studio. Warner Bros was very impressive - a must see.
I was also able to play a round of golf at a beautiful mountain course (see pictures below) call - Lost Canyons. My new favorite Golf Course (mine used to be Grand Bear, Mississippi). The views were beyond description.
